The crime branch of Mumbai Police has apprehended seven individuals associated with an alleged international gang linked to underworld figure Chhota Shakeel. This action follows the kidnapping of a drug trafficker and his associate, along with an extortion attempt, as reported by officials on Wednesday.
Sajid Electricwala, a drug dealer from Surat, was held captive by the suspects for nearly a month before being rescued by the police.
Authorities revealed that his accomplice, Shabbir, managed to escape on July 10 and subsequently contacted the Oshiwara police station.
The arrested suspects have been identified as Sarwar Khan, Mehtab, Santosh Waghmare, Satish Kadu, Yunus Thevarpalli, Tousif Sandy, and Rahul Sawant.
During the investigation, police uncovered connections between the suspects and Chhota Shakeel. According to investigators, the gang used three vehicles to abduct Electricwala and Shabbir from a hotel in Oshiwara on June 12.
The inquiry revealed that the kidnapping stemmed from a dispute over a deal involving the drug mephedrone. Electricwala was reportedly supposed to receive 5 million rupees for supplying the drug but failed to deliver the substance or return the money.
